3D Video Acquisition
LTU carried out a test survey at a 3 acre Greenfield site in Yorkshire. The 3D video and drawings below clearly display a classic Herringbone drainage system, a visual which cannot usually be achieved with traditional ground probing radar units.

The MIRA system enables fast and true 3D data acquisition. From a user perspective this means that large areas can be mapped without loss of information. This method is suitable for almost any kind of, shallow, subsurface investigation, i.e. targets with arbitrary shape, layers and linear objects are mapped equally well.
The data set is positioned using a total station then post processed using MALA’s software, this means that the depth of a target will be known along it’s entire route rather than relying on where a surveyor would choose to mark the depth – rises and falls of utilities can not be missed with the MIRA system. It also becomes possible to model the diameter of a target – previously very difficult (and quite inaccurate) with single channel GPR systems.

Swedish National Heritage Case Study
LTU’s MIRA system was used on a large scale archaeological pilot study in Sweden for the Swedish National Heritage Board. The objective of the project was to test the performance of the MIRA system in comparison to traditional methods of GPR surveying on a specific region in Birka. The survey revealed that the new MIRA system gave significantly more accurate and detailed results than previous methods.
